PROJECT DESCRIPTION:The "People of the Downsview Land" mural by the AstroSankofa artist collective exemplifies dedication to community engagement and historic preservation. This memory escape, based on extensive research and interviews with community members and elders, explores various eras and locations within the Downsview region. The mural includes floating tablet gizmos displaying significant historical dates and dynamic depictions of Downsview's history, enhanced by stories from an online collection. It also features native animals, plants, and historical airplanes built and flown at Downsview. A QR code at the mural’s genesis activates a 3D augmented reality experience, animating the mural and providing video clips of the artists explaining its different elements.
People of Downsviews land is a competition that Astrosankofa applied for December 19th 2023,we were awarded the project in April and was scheduled to start in May due to rain.
